I don’t know about you, but I have some control issues. I just never really liked change, from changing schools, to changing homes, or jobs.
It always took me a while to get used to it and I was never particularly happy about it.
However, over the past few years I’ve learned that unfortunately, sometimes change is inevitable and it really is out of our control, which is why I learned to embrace it instead.
This hasn’t been a smooth process and it’s still a work in progress; but today I’m here to share with you why change is good.
Why change is good
As I was saying at the beginning of the post, I never really liked change.
But, when that’s all that happens consistently for a season (or more), you kinda have to welcome it in your life – when life gives you lemons….
So why is change good? I would say as a general answer, that change is necessary for growth.
If there’s one thing I’m obsessed with is personal development and constantly improving myself, and change has helped to do that.
There’s something about experiencing constant shifts in your life that really makes you grow, learn more about yourself and become a better version of you altogether.
Now, let’s go a bit more in detail to understand a few specific reasons why change is good for you.
10 reasons why change is good for you
You develop resilience
When things happen outside of our control, it may be hard at first, but when we consistently experience change, we develop resilience.
Change helps us become stronger no matter what we’re facing in life, and this is an essential life skill.
You become more appreciative of life
Sometimes we can get too used to our precious little corner of the world, that it’s possible we start taking things for granted.
However, when things start happening and change is in full swing in our life, we have a new sense of gratitude that humbles us and reminds us of how blessed we are.
Change opens you to new opportunities
Have you ever wondered how many opportunities would have passed you by if it wasn’t for change?
When we’re set in our ways, it’s hard sometimes to receive new opportunities that may come along, which is why change is actually good for that.
If it wasn’t for change, I would have never started this blog, and probably I would have never met my boyfriend. So it goes without saying that I’ve learned to welcome change in my life.
Change gets you out of your comfort zone
I’m sure there’s a saying somewhere that goes ‘Nothing good ever happened inside the comfort zone’, and I agree with it.
When we’re comfortable where we are, we can’t experience growth. But change brings along discomfort, and through that discomfort, we grow, and that, friend, is a good thing. Being out of our comfort zone helps us get more confident, no matter what we’re facing.
Change reminds you that your current situation is not the end
This was a hard pill to swallow, but another reminder of why change is good. When going through tough seasons, it may be hard to see the end of the tunnel.
However, when we learn to embrace change, we learn that all seasons come to an end and that even in tough moments, the sun will shine again.
Change helps you get out of routine
As much as I LOVE a good routine (my daily routine is an example of that), I think it’s good to shake things up sometimes.
Life is funny because, for me, the biggest change was having a boyfriend who does not have any routines in his life. We’re quite the opposite so I had to learn to relax my routines a little and sometimes to not have one at all (mostly on the weekends), but we manage to make it work beautifully, and that’s another reason why I think change is good.
You become more open-minded
As someone who comes from an island in Italy, I know a few things about people with a closed mindset, and it’s painful.
Moving to London was one of the biggest changes in my life and it opened my mind in a way a few things have.
So learn to welcome change because it will help you to change your mindset and as a consequence, it will change your life.
Change brings a new sense of adventure
I wouldn’t say I’m a very adventurous person, but I learned to relax a little.
Change can be beneficial to bring adventure and excitement into your life, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need to re-discover yourself.
Change teaches you new lessons
If there’s one thing that change will do, is to teach you lessons. Whether that’s to humble you, teach you to be grateful, to let go of your ways, or whatever it may be, change will teach you something.
And that’s another reason why I believe that change is good after all; because life is about learning lessons, growing and developing as individuals, and change will help us do that.
Change prepares you for the unexpected
If there’s anything we’ve learned over the past few years, is that things will happen, rapidly, without asking for anyone’s permission and with not many warning signs.
However, when we learn to welcome change in our life, we learn to hold things and plans with an open hand, and when some unexpected things happen, we can get adjusted to them a bit more easily.
And if you want to learn more about this, you can read my post on how to prepare for the unexpected.

I love how you talk about how change is good because it causes us to become a bit more relaxed with our routines. I’m like you and I looove having a routine and almost always stick to one. But it can be healthy to let our guard down at times and live life a little more free-flowingly! Great post 🙂
